An Open Letter to LSU

Disclaimer: This post really has nothing to do with Alabama football...

Dear LSU:

I've only been to your stadium once...in 2006 for the game against Alabama. Despite the recent animosity between our programs, I look back on that trip fondly as easily the funnest football road trip I've ever been on. Your fans showered me with food, drink and kindness and it was a memorable experience to say the least despite the loss.

One thing though, I don't recall hearing the song "Start Wearing Purple" that weekend and it'd been out for a year and a few months at the time of that game. Maybe y'all do use it and I don't remember, but if you don't use it, you should. It's a great sing along song anyway, but it'd be out of this world hearing 90+K of you all sing it at a game. Maybe you could even use it between the third and fourth quarter like Wisconsin uses "Jump Around" or something. I realize that Louisiana culture is pretty different from Ukranian gypsy culture, but you both have a reputation for hard partying so it could work.

Having seen these guys in concert and having partied with you guys, I can say that Gogol Bordello playing homecoming or something in Baton Rouge would be ridiculously fun. Just something to think about. I'd travel down there for it...especially if you can hook it up the night before the Bama game this year.

Closing statement: Yeah, so, that was kind of a weird post, but I've been listening to GB a lot lately and can't believe LSU hasn't picked that tune up yet.

In the words of Verne Lundquist:
"Oh my"... Gogol Bordello in Tiger Stadium would be pretty scary...

If you haven't already seen it yet. .
. .rent "Everything is Illuminated". It's a movie about a young corporate dude who travels to the Ukraine under the guise of writing a travel memoir but really in (ah- f_ck it! it's a long story)

BUT. . . .

it's probably the funniest movie you've seen in a LONG LONG TIME. The guy who played Frodo in "Lord of the Rings" saga stars in it. But it's the no-name actors who shine. Seriously, it is one funny ass movie with an INSANE SOUNDTRACK.

I think Gogol Bordello sings a number of the songs in the movie. Don't worry, I don't think "Start Wearing Purple" is in it. Trust me, you'll crack your ass up in this movie.

I actually...
I actually watched that movie a few nights ago, which is why I've been listening to them a ton. Alex, the translator in the movie is the lead singer of Gogol Bordello (he just shaved his mustache for the film). Elijah Wood (Frodo) goes out with one of the Asian girls in the band (who come out at the end of the clip I posted in the comments section.)

My friend's band opened for Gogol Bordello for about two or three weeks in Fall of 2006 and they said the New York show was crazy because a bunch of famous people were backstage (Elijah Wood, the cast of Jackass, etc.)

I will have to say that "Start Wearing Purple" is one of my least favorite songs by them. And yes, they are weird (as are my music tastes.) That being said, they are one of the funnest live bands I've ever seen. Here's a song I really like by them (though it's a TV taping, so there's not the crowd energy):

I can't believe it!
I saw G-Bordello a few years ago when they toured on the Van's Warped Tour (I'm a Pennywise freak) and I swear- I never put "Alex- the premium break-dancer" from Everything. . . with Eugene Kutz from G-Bordello? That's bananas.

They're a great band. I knew they played the music on the soundtrack, but didn't know HE also played Alex. I'm still dumbfounded.

What did you think about the movie? (I think the world of it. I've shilled for it since I saw it about a year ago. Insane, funny, and poignant)

Are you kidding me?
That's some cool ass shit Nico !!! I totally dig those strange vibrations!

But anyone at LSU ain't hearing anyone's shit these days. New or old. They got that BCS trophy wrapped around their heads right now! Ain't nothing getting through.

And if my team had just won the national championship title AND I LIVED ANYWHERE NEAR NEW ORLEANS. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

. . . . .Hell yeah! I'd STILL BE DRUNK TOO!

We've missed out too
Along those lines, when will Bama start using "Embrace the Crimson Tide" by Elf Power?  Pretty badass song, even includes a Hendrix riff for the old-schoolers.

Huh...
I didn't even know that song existed. It doesn't have the drunken-sing-along vibe that "Start Wearing Purple" does though.
