McCarron, at 6-4, 180 pounds, reminds us a lot of former Elite 11 and Alabama QB Brodie Croyle. Like Croyle, McCarron has that shaggy brown hair and same live arm. He has one of the quickest releases in the camp, is very light on his feet and got a lot better as the day went on.

"I thought he improved more from the start of the workout to the end than anyone else I saw," James said. "He has a lot of physical tools but mentally, you could tell he was starting to understand things more. When the game slows down for him, he's really going to make a big jump."

2008 SEC Media Days

It's official, football is just right around the corner.

SEC Media Days will start from Hoover on Wednesday, and Alabama will be on Thursday. Saban is scheduled to speak starting at 8:40 AM on Thursday morning. The two player representatives for the Tide will be Antoine Caldwell and Rashad Johnson.

Zeke Knight has been medically disqualified based on a medical condition that we cannot disclose due to student privacy laws. He has had extensive medical evaluations by numerous physicians, all of which concluded that it was in his best interest to no longer play football. Zeke is a fine young man and we appreciate all that he has done for this program. Zeke did a great job for us as a starter last year and, more importantly, is on track to graduate in August. I would like nothing more than to have him with us for one more season on the football field, but unfortunately that won't be the case after consulting with the doctors and medical staff on numerous occasions. I wish him and his family nothing but the best. Zeke Knight will always be a part of the Crimson Tide family.
